This lovely airy delicate-looking native is endangered in the wild and was only described for science as recently as 1971. Help protect its future by finding a place for it in your garden – it loves riverbanks and creeksides and can stand up to frost – and those creamy flowers will enchant you and the native wildlife come spring.
Boronia clavata ‘Plum Bells’
DESCRIPTION: Tall native flowering shrub with fine feathery slender leaves, pale yellow-green-cream small cup-shaped flowers in winter-spring. Found in the wild in southern WA, and not described for science until 1971.
USES: Native and cottage gardens, seasonally wet areas, creek planting.
PLANTING: Plant in a sheltered spot in dappled shade. Free-draining slightly acid soil with plenty of organic matter will give best results. In the wild it grows on riverbanks and in floodplains so can tolerate periods of wet soil
CARE: Water regularly while the plant is establishing. A light prune once flowering has finished will help give the plant shape and encourage new growth. Follow with an application of a slow release fertiliser for natives, and fresh mulch.
